Universal Child Birth Registration Campaign
A series of workshops and training programmes in Karimnagar District in which young boys and girls participated along with community leaders and other village level CBOs, went a long way in installing a sense of responsibility in registering births of a child. 

In order to achieve this long content, krushi interested to break the journey with, Systematic collection and analysis of various demographic and socio-economic information and reliable service data are vital for planning, monitoring and evaluating health programmes.
 
Birth registration campaign and survey has been begun in the Karimnagar district with innovative practices with the collaboration of a Plan sponsored UBR campaign to Krushi as nodal agency and in turn that there are two more NGOs are working in the programme. And the whole programme was analyzed and documented by Krushi only.
The total programme coverage is 20 mandals out of 57 mandals existed in the district.

To achieve this massive campaign in the district, as a partner development organization The Krushi has been planned and designed various programmes and policies. The whole programme was continuing with the cooperation of district administration under the chairmanship of District collector and Magistrate. In the month of February 2005 a district level workshop has been conducted on the importance of birth registration and all the government officials, NGOs were attended.

The main method of information collection in the district is for the programme is, decennial population census of 2001, village secretary level understanding and records, mandal level statistical reports and at district level DM &HO office records were used for birth registration status.

We have used another institution of Anganwadi center and identified pregnant as well as lactating women registration data one more additional source used for birth registration data is ANM level immunization collection. Total staff working in the programme is 16 mandal level coordinators are intensively working under two project coordinators were allotted 10 each. Students became motivators for motivating the community to get its children registered. During the campaign it was observed that elected members  of panchayati Raj  should be motivated  on the issue of their  better active participation  and involvement. Mothers are more concerned about the welfare of their children. When they understood the importance of registration of birth they motivated their neighbors to do the same as well.
 
Truly, UBR campaign started in the district, on 1st December 2005 and it was launched by District Collector and Magistrate at district head quarters.

An orientation training programme is also conducted for district level, mandal level and grass root level functionaries and staff on Birth registration by Krushi and other partners involved in the programme. The objectives of the programme were:

  1. To develop trainers for imparting training to Anganwadi instructors, ANMs and community leaders,
  2. To inculcate comprehensive understanding of the importance of birth registration among community members
  3. To develop sound understanding about the process of generating awareness among community regarding the problem of non-registration of births
  4. To compel them to understand and feel that a child must be given a birth certificate as soon as he or she is registered

Understanding demand for birth registration increased. People came to panchayat resource centers to know how to get birth certificates of their children. Adolescent girls and boys were overenthusiastic about the issue. In comparison to previous months, registration of birth increased by 50 per cent.

Proper registration of births will give exact sex ratio to government, civil society, communities and youth. They will be compelled to ponder over the problem and find some solution before it is too late.
